NOMINATED FOR WORLD TRAVEL AWARD

Dr. Robert Billington, President of the Blackstone Valley Tourism
Council has been nominated as a finalist for the World Travel Awards -
North American Travel Personality of the Year.
Billington was chosen as one of three finalists for his achievements
in the travel and tourism industry. He is competing for the award with
two other finalists who are: Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks &
Resorts; and Cheryl Hudak, President of the 20,000 member American
Society of Travel Agencies (ASTA).
"I'm thrilled to be chosen as a finalist for this travel industry
award, and congratulate all of the men and women who work hard work to
make Blackstone Valley a great place to live, work and visit. Our public
and private tourism partners, have worked hard to build Blackstone
Valley into a place that is drawing international recognition"
Billington said."
The award winner will be announced Saturday, September 6, 2008. This
new World Travel Award designation for 2008 is at the full discretion of
the Board of Directors of the WTA.
"North America is traditionally regarded by the rest of the world as
a reliable industry barometer, spearheading latest developments,
creating new products and improving customer experiences", said Graham
E. Cooke, President and Founder of the World Travel Awards. "It's for
this reason that the winners of these regional awards have a special
significance, with long term international impact" added Cooke.
Earlier this year, Blackstone Valley Tourism Council won the honored
2008 Tourism for Tomorrow Destination Award from the World Travel and
Tourism Council, which recognized BVTC's sustainable tourism development
initiatives.
In 2007 the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council was Certified in
Tourism Governance by the United Nations World Travel Organization
becoming the first agency in the United States to adopt their
international procedures.
